Herbert Eichholzer
BLAUPAUSE (BLUEPRINT)

Ausstellung—Exkursionen—Diskurse (Exhibition—Field Trips—Discourse)

Herbert Eichholzer (1903–1943) had scarcely a decade for his architectural and creative work, which was indebted to the European avant-garde and influenced by Le Corbusier. This makes the variety and sheer number of projects to which he committed himself all the more astounding. Passionate and meticulous researchers have ensured that these projects were not forgotten, since only a few of Eichholzer’s structures have been preserved either in the original or in an altered form: one of these is the Haus Brutmann in Eisenerz.

The house is the site of a documentary exhibition using analogue and digital media that focuses primarily on Eichholzer’s activity in Styria outside of Graz.

Eichholzer’s biography reveals a charismatic and courageously political person whose resistance to National Socialism as a networker for the communist movement cost him his life. His work and influence can serve as a blueprint for committed action—especially at a time in which the self-evidence of peace, freedom, and democracy is disappearing.
